While many of us struggle to stay fit, 1 in 6 Americans are going to bed hungry. The faces of hunger may surprise you. Hunger is not just for those who are homeless. In fact, the devastation plagues families, neighbors and children. According to the USDA, more than 17 million children are living in “food-insecure” homes. The term “food-insecure” means that a home does not have dependable access to enough food to sustain a healthy life. Sometimes, our personal battles make it hard to see the bigger picture. A few extra pounds, moments of insecurity, or frustration over a number on a scale, may feel large in the moment, but it is nothing when compared to the devastation in our own neighborhoods.
